Marriage Equality Map a Week Before DOMA and Prop 8 Oral Argument

A week from today, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in United States v. Windsor  (Docket 12-307), which challenges the constitutionality of the federal Defense of Marriage Act (“DOMA”), and Hollingsworth v. Perry (Docket 12-144), which challenges the constitutionality of California’s Proposition 8.  As the map above indicates, the United States is lagging behind  in the recognition of same sex marriage in the Western hemisphere.  Likewise, Europe is far, far ahead of America, the supposed land of liberty and religious freedom.
