The Christianists' War on LGBT Families

One of the biggest lies of the Christian Right and their boot licking political whores in the GOP are their claims that they care about children and families - all children and families that is except for families of LGBT Americans.  We're pretty much viewed as human garbage (the photo above is of me and my partner and some of our children from my daughter's wedding) to be removed from sight as the "godly Christians" pat themselves on the back for their piety and religiosity.  It's enough to make one want to vomit.  But these bigots and money loving professional Christians do need to be challenged.  In what may be little better than tilting at windmills, Jennifer Chrisler, head of the Family Equality Council, has challenged hatemeister Tony Perkins of the hate group Family Research Council to join her family for dinner.  Will he do it?  I'm not holding my breath.  Neither is Chrisler.  God for bid that Perkins have to face those he seeks to harm on a daily basis. Here are highlights from The Advocate:

Jennifer Chrisler, head of the Family Equality Council, told CNN’s Brooke Baldwin today that antigay leader Tony Perkins might “open his heart” if he accepts her invitation to dinner with her family.

Chrisler extended the invitation after Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, discussed his opposition to same-sex marriage and denounced gay parents in an interview with Baldwin last week, and Baldwin challenged him to justify his views, asking him among other things if he had ever been to the home of a same-sex married couple.

Baldwin noted that Perkins, queried by CNN, told the network today that he and his wife “will be glad to respond when we receive the invitation to find a time that works.” Chrisler isn’t holding her breath, but she thinks spending time with her family, which includes her same-sex spouse and 10-year-old twin boys, would do Perkins some good. “I don’t think that I’ll change his mind, buy I do think that we might be able to open his heart a little bit,” she told Baldwin.
Yes, my children are older now, but hearing deliberate vicious lies told about one's parent and loved ones causes needless emotional and psychological harm.   Not that the Christianists and professional gay haters like Perkins give a damn about the collateral damage they inflict.  For them, it's all about feeling self-righteous and good about themselves (and in Perkins' case making a buck) at the cost of suffering inflicted on others.
